Evenings End

A lavender citrus haze permeates the sound. The beach rocks tuck themselves into dark waters, pulling the waves up above their barnacled heads. The lighthouse shimmers through the mist, preparing herself to work the drizzly night shift. A collage of purple islands seem transparent in the waning light, fog swirls between their shadowed shores. Clouds fringed with gold play peekaboo with the stars. I let their colors soak my skin. The twilight radiates through me and fills my restless spirit with stillness. The light escapes behind the mountains, but I have stolen a piece of it for myself. Glowing embers burn inside me, keeping me warm through the black night.
