Titania

The fairy Queen: A costume idea.

On our walks lately I’ve seen little flowers filled with dew drops and rings of mushrooms sprawled out among the leaves.  What do you suppose the fairies were doing in the night? flowers earfur and sparklebridget flowers titaniatitania costume

I have always wanted to be in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.  As any character!  Last weekend I collected a bunch of flora from my courtyard and made myself a headdress fit for a fairy queen. A little sparkle, lace, and (faux) deer fur and I found myself being bewitched by a drop from Puck’s flower in my sleep. All I would need to add for Halloween are some wings.  I have some pretty green ones! It would be funny to have Beau wear a donkey head, (as Titania fell in love with an ass), but not only would he probably not go for that, it would be one of those things you’d have to explain all night.  No…someday I’ll try out for the actual play!

I love Shakespeare’s fairy names: Moth, Peaseblossom, Mustardseed, and Cobweb! Screen shot 2013-10-06 at 8.21.56 AMThese paintings are by Arthur Rackham.  He makes the fairy world come alive! Below, Oberon and Titania meet.  Such beautiful detail!Screen shot 2013-10-06 at 8.18.34 AMThe boys love it when I dress up.  “Mama!  You look so beautiful!” They are very kind, and have nothing to compare me to! Finn wanted to be in one of the pictures.  My little changeling child!midsummer dream mama finn

  1. The picture of you and Finn is one of the most peaceful and lovely I have seen. Bridget – such a GREAT costume idea. And I do have others to compare you to, yet find you absolutely gorgeous!
