Our nephew Paxten turned one this weekend! Jon and Tristen threw an incredible party for him at Jon’s Portland office. Wow. Mustaches and ties were donned, sangria drunk, and Lebanese food devoured. It was amaaazing. And Paxten is the cutest kid ever…good grief.

And on top of it all they bought us a night’s stay at a Mcmenamin’s hotel because there was no more room to stay at their house. WOW. Staying at the Kennedy School on St Patrick’s Day is wild. WILD!! Events all day, ale tastings, bag pipes, movies, lots and lots of red heads and green tutus and drunk people and frivolity. I wished we could have two St Patrick’s days so we could go to the party AND join in the festivities at the hotel. I LOVED it.

Buuuut we also came to the conclusion that travel with a preschooler, a toddler, and a baby is BONKERS. I am dreaming of a stress free trip to Italy with just easy tiny Harry!

We did, however, manage to sleep pretty well for all being in one room. There was a quote written along the top of the walls around the room. I love it and I can’t believe I’ve never heard it before:

From groves of spice,
O’er fields of rice,
Athwart the lotus stream,
I bring for you,
Aglint with dew,
A little lovely dream.
Sweet, shut your eyes,
The wild fireflies
Dance through the fairy neem;
From the poppybole
For you I stole
A little lovely dream.
Dear eyes, good night,
In golden light
The stars around you gleam;
On you I press With soft caress
A little lovely dream.

~Sarojini Naidu

I got to sleep under that last night. No wonder I slept well! Of course, the boys didn’t fall asleep until 10, with quite a bit of hard work on Beau’s part, but then we all slept from 10 till 7…with a couple feedings thrown in. Compared to how I expected it to go that was GLORIOUS.

(It’s funny…five years ago I would have been petrified of having children after reading that!)
