Have you seen the movie Meatballs? You know how the camp across the lake is richer and better and classier than Northstar? I think it’s called Camp Mohawk? Well there’s a scene where the dumpy Northstar kids see the Mohawk kids on their shiny bus and they all have nice fancy Native American costumes on… Probably only my family will know what I’m talking about, but anyway….
Finn’s Thanksgiving Feast was this week and before school started this year I was a little bummed he didn’t get to be in this other class who’s teacher is known for going above and beyond what is necessary for a preschool class. They always have amazing crafts and the teacher is bright and bubbly and their classroom is decorated like a big jungle. Plus Finn’s cousins had her so I wanted to have that shared camaraderie. I tried so hard to get Finn in that class! But in the end I really felt like God said to shut up (In so many words) because He knew what was best for my Huckleberry.
Well Finn’s class got up and did their little song in their street clothes and sat down…and then in comes the other class marching in a perfect line wearing Native American costumes with big feathers coming out of their cute little heads. It was ridiculous, the juxtaposition…and it reminded me so much of that movie! But it also reminded me of how it JUST DOESN’T MATTER! (VIDEO at END of post…It’s a line chanted over and over in the movie, when Northstar’s getting their butts kicked in sports against Mohawk and Bill Murray gives a motivational speech)
And now I’m laughing about it because it’s just so true. Finn ADORES his teacher, and I can tell he’s really experiencing the love of Jesus through her. She has so much patience for my boy! I really think he’s just where he’s meant to be this year, and I’m Thankful that God knows better than me about what’s best for him. And it goes for every other teeny thing I’m stressing about. IT JUST DOESN’T MATTER!
