My last rose

Jude the Obscure. The perfect combination of pink, peach, and yellow. The perfect wrapped up cabbagy bundle of petals. The perfect lemony sugar scent.I’ve always had a hard time with drawing roses. I can’t wrap my brain around them. Same thing with frosting roses. I don’t know what it is, but they’re just the most beautifully and wonderfully complex specimen. I think it’s that I’m lazy and with roses you actually have to put some brain power into it! So I figured since I only had one rose left…I might as well take this last chance to draw it.

I was using my sketch book so the watercolor came out a bit raw. And yeah…I know it’s not great, but it’s a step in the right direction! Next I’ll actually use watercolor paper. But right now I have a spiderman begging me to fight with him!

  1. Is there really a rose called Just the Obscure? After Thomas Hardy's amazingly good but depressing book? Or were you inspired to name it that? I'm so curious about this flower now.
