On my mind.

♥ I need a new oilcloth for autumn. Is it too much to ask for someone to make a sweet faded print with plaid and deer and mushrooms in purple, rust, moss and light brown?

♥ I made naan from scratch. Coconut naan. I found a video of an Indian lady making it and copied. The results were like something out of a dream….magnifico!! Finn called it bubble bread. Now I just need to perfect the art of the mango curry and my life will be complete. I served it with lime coconut cilantro (coriander in the UK) rice, veg, and TJ’s punjab choley. I love saying Punjab Choley. Makes me think of Annie…and if you know why you’re a doll.♥ I never thought buying the enormous Toys R Us kiddie pool with obnoxious aqua and lime stripes would be a good idea. In the end…it actually makes me feel like I’m in a tropical/dessert resort. And the boys love it. Gets me out with my lilies, too. If you could smell my environs right now…hoo boy. Lilies and fresh naan? Yes.Finn constantly asks to put nail polish on. SO I let him wear boyish blue. He’s a wild one!♥ I spent the day with my mother in law on Friday. It was lovely. We went to a couple adorable shops on the North Slope of Tacoma, enjoyed her big yellow dahlias, the sweetest most ruby strawberries I’ve ever tasted, and watched the Man from Snowy River. I loved it!

The table that gave me the “I wantsies” from the Three Bridges antique consignment shop. Olive branches! Like Oliver? sigh. She also put my mind back on to finding a church. We’ve been lackadaisical about it for the last year or so. So many reasons we dislike church. So many reasons we love God and his people. My heart kind of sinks thinking of trying new places on one of Beau’s two days off. Let’s be honest…it’s lame. I haven’t felt lacking at all in meeting with believers and in my social life or in my walk with God. This is an area in my life I just want to fall into my lap, but I know life doesn’t work that way. (We had sort of found one but it wasn’t the most kid friendly and was a bit too small for us…in case you were wondering)

♥ I hung out with Christy the other day with our boys. Case and Finn are so perfect for each other! I can tell those boys are going to be having fun together for years to come. Just like their daddies.

at the spay park

♥ Still dreaming up names. I was so enamored with the love people had for Brucie! But funily enough…I was watching Finding Nemo the other day and saw the part where Bruce the shark busts through a door and says, “HERE’S BRUUUCIEE!” Ha!

♥ the quote on my tea bag today:

“When God made time

He made enough of it.”

~Gaelic saying
Sunday’s sunset

♥ the flowers Beau got for me yesterday for no reason at all. Boy was I glad I actually had a yummy dinner in the oven when he came home! (as opposed to …”uh..there’s bread in the fridge if you’re hungry”) I know you’re not supposed to advertise your man, but it took Beau several years to figure out that flowers really do make me happy and aren’t just some contrived Valentine’s Day commercial gimmick! If I get flowers…I brag!

♥ two books I’m excited about reading: The Pink Carnation series (a mystery period esque series like the Scarlet Pimpernell. My mom loves them. I’m intrigued but let me just say: Pink Carnation is the worst name ever!)

and A Game of Thrones series (a fantasy novel that is now a show on tv…but I’m a little nervous about this one because it’s apparently not for the feint of heart. Anybody read it? Would I like it?)

♥ How much does it cost when your 4 year old opens his car door too fast and chips the paint on someone else’s car? $500. That’s…like…a trip to Hawaii. Ugh!

  1. Love the nail polish on Finn, and also I am loving the first book in the Game of Thrones series! Very engrossing and I became attached to multiple characters almost immediately. I like that each chapter is written according to which character it's focusing on, but not in first person. (I don't think I said that very clearly, but I trust you understand!)

  3. Case and Finn: laugh. Play. Laugh. Wrestle. Fight. Tattle. Laugh. Aaaaand repeat! Sounds like best buds to me. :)God will put you at the perfect church! I know it. He has a plan for your sweet family. I made curry once and it turned out SO spicy! I have been too scared to try again.

  5. Maryann: that's so good to hear! And also a little worrying because I guess he kills off a ton of characters. Do I want to get close to them? Eek! Keep me posted!Deena: a comment from Ireland! Yippee! We shall north slope to our hearts content when you get back :)Christy: I commented to you below, too, but I wanted to also say that next time you make curry have the Collins' over. Beau and the boys have a love of putting atomic things in their mouths. I think Oliver and Finn would drink salsa and Beau thinks he may have an addiction to spicy food. He loves the burn. I'm like…sweet mango and mild coconut please!

  7. Three things:Oilcloth. Are you getting the real thing, and if yes, WHERE? I looked on Etsy for an oilcloth but it looks like everything available is pretty much vinyl. I'd be curious to know, as I am on the hunt for one.Church. Yes. We feel IDENTICALLY. Giving up one of those precious two days for something that we are doing "because we should" vs. feeling a kinship feels like sheer torture. Especially with the mondo culture shock of where we are (tiny-town midwest). Ugh. What a conundrum. The MBTI. Have you ever taken the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator? Because if you have, I would LOVE to know what you are. My guess is INFP. (My two kindred spirits have been INFPs.) And I bet Beau is some kind of NT. Here's the test in case you are unfamiliar: http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp. A good book reference is Please Understand Me II by Keirsey — that book changed my life (so cliche) but really. It did.

  9. a: I know what you mean about the vinyl cloth! I have some. But I got my oil cloth at Cath Kidston in Glasgow. There's an online shop, but the overseas shipping isn't cheap! But it's really really great stuff. Beautiful prints and drapes very similarly to regular cloth.I've taken the meyers briggs before..but a very long time ago. I'll take it again and report back! I think you can take it on the internet or my sister has a book…(both my sisters have counseling masters)

  11. Jealous! I want some oilcloth. I ended up ordering a custom-made "oilcloth" (aka vinyl) off of Etsy because I'm in a bit of a pickle with my husband's great-great-grandma's table (which we are using) and it needed to be covered/protected ASAP. Shucks. Maybe that next purchase along down the line will be a true-blue real-deal oilcloth. I'd much rather have that. Thanks for the tip!

  13. I took the test! I am an ESFP. The Performer. (I'm a theater major so this is no surprise!) But I should say that every time I take this test I switch back and forth between the N vs. S I only scored 6 on the S this time. And about Extroverted vs. Introverted, I am most definitely without a doubt an Extrovert…but I do enjoy introverted activities because I was raised that way. Anyway…Hope that's interesting for you! I'll take it again now and do Beau :)

  15. I took it for Beau and he's an ISTJ, the Guardian Inspector (according to me) The career suggestions for him include accounting and computer programming. (He's an accounting major and a web devoloper…ha!)

  17. Did you read the ESFP/ENFP descriptions and relate to either/or? And/or to one more than the other…? I've always liked the "Portrait of…" pages when googling results.(I'm a gushing off-the-charts ENFP)
