On beauté. I bought some silver and amethyst eyeliners and I squealed with delight when I tried them! The amethyst is a deep plum and the silver is more of a mica charcoal. I used to mess around with colors and makeup all the time but stopped when it became a slight impossibility… or at least an everyday trial. In these last 3 months before baby #2 comes I’ve been having some fun. This included putting some caramel streaks in my hair. They’re barely noticeable right now, but they’ll lighten as the days do, and that suits me perfectly. I can’t wait to see how it changes!

On dé
cor. My Grandma Mary painted a magical chinese lantern painting in ’97. I adore it! I used it as inspiration for our wedding, even having it on our invitations, and always stop to admire it every time I walk by it in her condo. The other day we were over there visiting and I said, as usual, “I love this painting!” and she said, “You want to take it with you?” I nearly died. It’s exactly what’s been missing above my mantle, and somehow everything else in the living room falls into place now that it’s there.

Now, more than ever, I need to pick a wall color.
Or a wall paper? Ah me.

I’ve been hanging things up and taking things down and creating so many little nail holes in the walls Beau will want to kill me when he has to paint again someday. But it’s all been so fun and grand for me to do that I don’t care. When I find just the right placement, with just the right color paintings together I’m a dancing will-o-the-wisp full of rapture! Right now I feel a bit like I live in a cozy hollow log with Frog and Toad and if I were to step outside in the evening there would be fireflies and lanterns in the boughs. Now if I could just pick the perfect paint color to go with everything I’ve hung (yes it’s been 3 and a half years).

My latest inspiration has come from my cousin Marie’s blog. She is a very stylish young woman, and each post she’s done so far is a much needed breath of fresh air since Domino went kaput. Here’s some pics I like from her blog (but I could have chosen many :)

Perhaps stark white is the color for me?

On cuisine. I got a panini maker for Christmas from my parents! I am obsessed. Sandwiches I’ve tried so far:

Tomato, basil, spinach, mozzarella, s&p, mayo, mustard

pineapple, ham, swiss, terryaki, mayo, garlic

pear, provolone (should have be brie), spinach, roasted pearl onions, ham
Beau loved this, but I picked out the ham and onions, then ate the onions by themselves. (For me it would be best as pear, brie, and spinach and that’s it.)

egg and sausage

peanut butter and jelly

grilled cheddar cheese.Like I said, I am obsessed.

In the last week I’ve also made shrimp scampii and angel hair pasta with white wine, parmesan, lemon, garlic and flat leaf parsley. Pizza (with toppings I’d never tried). Crepes (I’m still crap at crepes). And perfected the pancake. I’ve been trying to beef up my arsenal of cooking knowledge, spurred on by the food network giants and new contraptions and gadgets for my kitchen. The more I learn, the further I find myself needing to go, and yet somehow I am not discouraged. And let me tell you, in the past I have been very very discouraged from cooking. It seemed as though everything I made was a complete flop (I still can’t get eggs right!) but as time passes I’ve come to realize that time is good. I know it’s cliche, but practice really does eventually make perfect.
Oh and Beau also got me fun colored juicers; an orange, lemon, and lime in their corresponding colors. Love!

  1. i bought a panini maker when i was pregnant with josée and was also obsessed. i called jeremy on my way home from costco and laughed guiltily really hard over the phone until he practically hung up on me. i was so giddy about it.
